Avila - 8 Months Old

Miss Avila Iron is 8 months old today! Holy smokes... time is going by really fast!

Avila weighs 22 lbs and is 29 1/2 inches long. She's mainly wearing size 9 month clothing, although the pants are getting a bit short. We have a tall lady! She has 3 teeth, started crawling, pulling up on things, cruising around the furniture, and stood up from sitting position all by herself for the first time today! She says "mama" and is babbling "baba" and "dada" - not exactly sure if "dada" is for Matt or just her figuring out that sound. Avila is a really great eater so far... pretty much eating anything we give her. She's great at picking things up with her finger and thumb and putting in her mouth. She's still a great sleeper and nurser and loves being in the ergo or my arms. She's defiantly a mama's girl! Her little personality is coming through more everyday and we're just loving every minute with our little Avila Iron!

Black Eye: Day 14

It's been 2 weeks since Evelynn had a bit of a run-in with a bench and her black eye is healing really well! All the swelling is gone and the scrape is mostly healed; we're just left with a little green / yellow bruise that's continuing to fade. I'm so impressed by this girl's strength, that was quite a shiner!

Cayucos Pier

Black Eye: Day 8

It's been a week since Evey had a run-in with a bench. She's been such a tough girl, I'm seriously amazed by her strength and bravery! The swelling is almost entirely gone and now the dark blues and purples are changing to greens and yellows. The doctor said it could take several weeks or a month for the bruise to finally go away. It's the most beautiful black eye I've ever seen!

Surprise Visit From Uncle Drew & Dana!

Got a call from Uncle Drew that they were passing through SLO today on their way down to a festival in Santa Barbara... so we quickly loaded up and met him and Dana in Avila for a little fun at the beach! So stoked to be able to see them... even if it was for just a couple hours!

Avila's 1st time at Avila Beach!

Black Eye: Day 6

Swelling has gone way down and darker colors are fading to green and yellow now. Such a trooper!

Avila's 7 Month Check-up

We had Avila's well-baby check-up today. Our little lady weighs 21 1/2 lbs and is 29 1/4 inches long. She is off the charts for height, over the 100th percentile and is in the 95th percentile for weight. She had another round of vaccinations and did SO well! She let out a little cry on the 3rd shot for like 2 seconds and that was it! The nurse said she had never seen anything like it! I'm beginning to think that our two ladies have a very high pain tolerance!

Black Eye: Day 5

Evelynn: "I look so bew-ful with my rainbow eye!"

She's stoked on her "shiner" and likes to show it off and tell everyone how it happened. So awesome to see her so proud of her shiner!

Black Eye: Day 4

Took Evelynn into the Dr. office today to have her eye checked out because I noticed the corner of the white part of her eye had turned red. They checked her vision and said that everything was fine, just a really nasty bruise that may last a few weeks and a burst blood vessel in the eye from the injury. So proud of our little lady!

Black Eye: Day 2

Her poor little eye is continuing to get more swollen and bruised. The top photos were from the morning and the bottom two photos were from later in the afternoon. She is super tough and says it hurts "just a little bit."

Black Eye: Day 1

Evelyn had a bit of a run-in with a bench in her playroom today! I heard the thud and then the screams and went running. I scooped her up and examined it and was surprised the cut wasn't all that bad. She seriously cried for a minute or two... that's it! We try to be very aware of not overdoing it when our girls get hurt. We of course comfort but always follow it up with telling them how strong and brave they are and that they are totally fine. I think this approach has really helped b/c this girl is one tough cookie! I can guarantee that I would have cried more than Evey did!
