First Day On My Own!

My mom left yesterday and Matt is at work... so today marks my first day at home by myself with my two ladies! I definitely miss my mom getting me coffee in the morning, making the beds, cleaning up the house, playing with Evelynn, changing diapers, doing laundry, etc. Wow... it was nice having help... and now reality has hit! I had a few "oh shit" moments, one of which I can't bring myself to post and the other included me being vomited on twice by Avila as the UPS guys was delivering our new bed and trying to wrangle our barking dogs and wiping up me and a crying baby while signing for our delivery. It's a little crazy being home alone with a toddler and a newborn while working full time from the house... but I couldn't be more happy and thankful for our new little life on the Central Coast with our two ladies!

Avila's 1st Week Check-Up

This morning, Matt and I headed back down to Santa Clarita for Avila's fist check-up after being born. She weighed in at 8lbs 8oz and was still 21 inches long. She did really well at the check-up and we'll be back next week for her 2 week appointment.

Our Birth Story

On August 18, 2015 at 5:30am, Matt and I headed to Henry Mayo Memorial Hospital for our scheduled c-section (one week prior to our due date). We checked in and got all settled in our room before being wheeled into the OR. At 8:05am, Matt announced "it's a girl" as Dr. Tuso and Dr. Kittur delivered our second daughter. It was so awesome that they allowed Matt to take photos during the surgery, especially since all I could see was the blue curtain in front of me. Matt later told me that "Today" by the Smashing Pumpkins was playing in the background on Pandora when Avila was born... this is the song that Matt and I walked down the aisle to! How crazy beautiful is that?!

Avila Iron Hames weighed in at 9lbs 4oz and was 21 inches long... I seriously have the hugest babies! Evelynn weighed 9lbs and was 9 days late... I did not think that Lil Hames #2 would weigh more than her! After they got her cleaned up, they brought her over to me while I was getting put back together and then all three of us got wheeled into recovery (which was a huge relief for me b/c with Evelynn I had to be all alone in recovery for an hour while Matt took care of her in the nursery... apparently it's their new policy of keeping families together).

With Evleynn, we were induced 9 days after her due date and were in labor for 15 hours with 2 hours of pushing before they decided I needed an emergency c-section. This time around, I was so much more alert to what was going on around me since I wasn't so exhausted and scared about the delivery and surgery. I knew what to expect and everything just flowed so smoothly and within a couple of hours of arriving to the hospital, I had my baby girl laying in my arms... completely falling in love with her.

Lynn and Steve brought Evelynn to the hospital later that afternoon so she could meet her sister! The whole pregnancy, Evelynn kept saying that it was a girl and that she wanted a sister, so I was excited to let her know that Avila was in fact a girl! She walked in with pink balloons and was so excited to see her sister. She crawled up onto the bed and immediately leaned in and kissed Avila and said "I wuv you baby."

Throughout the pregnancy and even on the drive to the hospital that morning, I wondered how it was possible to love another child as much as I love Evelynn. The only thing I could relate it to was Bacchus and Rhone and how I love them equally... but still I wondered how it was possible. But it is... the second I saw Avila, my heart just grew. It's so strange how you can completely fall in love with someone you just met... but I love her so much and finally feel that our little family is complete.

We love you Avila Iron and are so excited you are finally here!

Avila & Pa... Steve has seriously got his hands full with 3 granddaughters now!

Day 2 in the hospital... Steve and Lynn brought Evelynn by to visit again and Curtis, Dana, and Ari also stopped by to meet baby Avila.

Day 3 in the hospital and we finally got discharged and headed back to Los Osos in the early evening! It may seem crazy to take a 3 hour car ride after just having a baby and surgery but I seriously could not wait to get our little family back to our new home on the Central Coast!

Avila's first roadie and pit stop in Gaviota for a quick diaper change and feeding... other than that, she slept the entire way home!

Now that we know that Lil Hames #2 is a girl... I thought I'd share these beautiful photos of our daughter's name... shot by Brittany App of App's Photography!

Baby Bump #2 - 39 Weeks

I was terrible at posting "bump pics" this pregnancy... but here is one last photo of the bump before Lil Hames #2 arrives tomorrow... as our doctor recommended that we have a scheduled c-section one week out from our actual due date (which was August 24, 2015).

Last Day as Just the Three of Us!

We headed down the Santa Clarita this morning so Matt could finish up a couple of things at work and so we could meet up with Lynn and Steve as they will be staying with Evelynn at our house in Valencia when we are in the hospital over the next couple of days.

Evelynn and I had one last date... just the two of us. We went shopping at the Disney store and she got to pick out a couple of toys (a Rapunzel doll and a Merida doll), followed by shave ice (that's why her tongue is red) and then we ran around at Bridgeport Lake until Matt got off of work. Then the three of us went out for one last dinner... as just the three of us!
